Polyacrylamide is a line type high molecular polymer, its formula is (CH2CHCONH2)n, and abbreviation is PAM. Polyacrylamide can be dissolved in the water easily; however, it is very difficult to dissolve in the general organic solvents, such as benzene, aether, esters and propanone etc. The aqueous solution of PAM is a non-dangerous, viscous liquid with excellent transparence. Solid polyacrylamide has hydroscopic property which will increase ion concentration, but has no toxicity and causticity. PAM has good thermal stability below 100℃, and will not decompose until 150℃. Polyacrylamide and its derivant can be used widely in water treatment, paper making, petroleum, coal, geology, architecture and other industry field as effective flocculent, densification agent and reinforcing agent for sheet paper and drag reducer.
